Studio Guitars: The Michael Ripoll Project | Pro Tools Expert Blog

Getting great guitars in the studio can be a challenge for the home user, firstly they may not have a guitar and amp, secondly there may just not be the space or equipment to capture it.

Studio Guitars: The Michael Ripoll Project from Big Fish is a collection of both acoustic and electric guitar loops covering several genres. The library consists of over 1000 loops in four formats, WAV, Apple Loops, REX and even ready to use in RMX/ The entire library weighs in at about 1.84GB for each format. They are divided into eight groups, Acoustic, Blues, Country, Funk, Jazz, Pop, Rock and Extra Guitars, and Construction kits.

There has been some consideration for those using them, so loops can be chained together to form an entire song arrangement.

All the recordings are well done and the playing is first class, so in essence you get a top class guitar player in your studio, showing you some cool riffs you can try in your song.

Studio Guitars makes a good attempt at delivering a lot of good content that will be of use to composers and home musicians alike. I’m often trawling through loop libraries and finding nothing, it is not the case with this library. There are plenty of excellent guitar performances with imaginative arrangements and great sounds to use, so on that basis Studio Guitars is way ahead of most libraries I’ve used.

By their very nature loop libraries are never going to be enough to satisfy everyone all the time, they are a limited selection of styles, tempos and keys, so they will never cover all the bases. Thankfully most of our DAWs now have REX and time and pitch stretching to help get us closer to making something fit.

In the perfect world I would choose a top guitar player every time, but we don’t live in a perfect world. In that case a library like Studio Guitars: The Michael Ripoll Project is well worth considering, check it out.
