Def Jef Kontrol Freaks - Kontrol Ya'self | Interface Magazine

That America is bursting with producers, we already know. However, Big Fish Audio succeeds every time in signing an exciting name for releasing a new product. This time, they have released a title produced by hip hop legend Def Jef, who achieved loads of compliments back in 1992 with his debut-single "On a real Trip."

Kontrol Freaks is a brand new CD jam-packed with construction kits. Sometimes there are loops played only with very cool drums, but there are loads of kits which are completed with bass and other additional samples like stabs, horns, pianos and a lot of others. The contents by kit on this CD change enormously, which keeps this library very interesting until the last sample. The sound itself is entirely "now" and is not only appropriate for hip hop producers, but it's also very well suitable for R&B producers as well.

The quality of the samples and loops is more than excellent. It's a bit a shame that not all the drum samples recorded were taken dry to the CD; a lot still have that little edge of effect. But that won't remove the pleasure of using them though, because they will give a lot of impact to your production. For the rest, everything sounds like a clear bell, and each mix stands like a big construction.

It might be a bit doggy for saying this, but with all the respect to other good products out there, this is perhaps one of the best hip hops libraries available at the moment.
