With so many instantly forgettable Indie guitar bands in the charts these days, it's easy to see why artists such as Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson and Joss Stone are seeking inspiration from the classic rhythm and blues sounds of Motwon and Stax Records of the 1960s and 70s. Vintage R&B is a massive new samples library from Big Fish Audio and is packed full of live-played loops ready to inject some funk and soul into your tracks.

The 7GB DVD contains 25 construction kits in ACIDized WAV, Apple Loops and REX2 formats, which equals about 1.9GB of 24-bit/44.1kHz audio. As if this wasn'
t enough, there's also 2.15GB of drum recordings taken from the construction kits, offering you more flexibility at the mixing stage.

The construction kits range from 65BPM Barry White love-ins through 60s chase-scene funk to 140BPM upbeat Gospel foot stompers. Each kit contains variations of each instrument, with around 30 loops of two-tapping drums and percussion, funky bass and guitar licks, upbeat horns and some beautiful Rhodes, organ and piano riffs. All of the recordings are expertly performed, although it's worth mentioning that the timing is a little loose in places so dance music producers may feel the need to quantise.

The real stars are the excellent drum breaks that fans of the raw sampled hip hop style will g crazy over. In fact, we'd even go as far as saying that the inclusion of the full multitrack drum files is worth the asking price alone!

Verdict: Beautifully captures the sound of classic 60s Motown.
