Call me a sad individual, but every once in a while, I really do get quite into listening to sample CDs. It's a beats thing. It's like imagining what you might layer on top and then getting locked into it, Breakbeat is excellent in this sense. There I was, canned up and nodding like a fool, "What's that you're listening to?" the occasional straggler would ask, "Er, you wouldn't have heard of them" I'd offer sheepishly, you see this CD really is the business if you like your beats to scream, feel and groove.

The problem with a lot of vinyl-sourced beat collections is that the quality suffers, quite naturally, given the original medium and subsequent extraction process, but this lot are almost without exception clean as a parson's duvet. Amazingly though, they retain that essential vinyl warmth and ambience. Quite how, I couldn't tell you. The other great plus for Breakbeat is that you won't find it littered with those 'everyone's used that one' loops. Not this is, until everyone starts using them anyway. Which they will.

Details? 77 extended loops of up to 16 bars, with usable variations over the course; 14 scratchy, poppy loops, more grainy but still clean by typical vinyl standards; then 118 shorter loops, all and I mean all excellent. Each of the loops is followed by ReCycle'd constituent hits. Tempos run from 75-114 bpm, and although there aren't shed-loads of loops here, the quality makes it a bargain.
